This Christmas you are planning to buy something in diamond for your loved one but you don't have enough cash for the huge bill of say $1000 for the diamond product you selected. Stop.
"It doesn't matter if you spend $99 or $9,000, the sentiment is the same," Jamie Cadwell of the Diamond Information Center says.
She says the holiday season marks the busiest sales for the sparkling gem, helped along by the busiest engagement season. If you're not planning on getting down on one knee this Christmas, that's no reason to shy away from the diamonds. Right-hand diamond rings have become popular. "They are all about individuality," Cadwell says.
Broaches are also riding a huge comeback this year. "They are all over the red carpet," Cadwell admits.
The 3-piece sets that made a big splash a few years ago are still a favorite buy. The "past, present, and future" pieces are anniversary staples for many jewelry shops.
Cadwell says to make sure you don't get ripped off this holiday season, do your research. If you go in informed, you are more likely to walk away with exactly what you want at a price you are willing to spend. She also advises only going to reputable jewelry shops.
